Indore: Central Groundwater Board trains officials on tightening rules for hotel, mall and industrial water extraction

A workshop on groundwater management was held in Indore's district panchayat hall, where officials were briefed on new permissions, NOCs and conservation norms for large‑scale users such as hotels, malls and industries.
The Central Groundwater Board (CGB) organised a training session on groundwater management, regulation and the Geo‑Nir portal in the district panchayat hall of Indore. Participants, including representatives from hotels, shopping malls, industrial units and major development projects, were briefed on the latest procedures for obtaining extraction permits and No‑Objection Certificates (NOCs). The CGB emphasized that over‑exploitation of aquifers will attract stricter monitoring and possible penalties.
During the workshop, officials highlighted the importance of adhering to conservation guidelines, such as maintaining minimum groundwater levels and implementing recharge measures. They also demonstrated how the Geo‑Nir portal can be used to track extraction volumes and ensure compliance with state‑wide water‑use policies.
The training aims to curb unregulated groundwater withdrawal that has been flagged by the state government as a growing concern. By educating large‑scale users on the regulatory framework, the board hopes to promote sustainable water use while preventing future shortages in the region.
The session concluded with a Q&A, where attendees sought clarification on documentation, monitoring frequency and penalties for violations. The CGB reiterated that continued non‑compliance could lead to legal action and revocation of extraction rights.
