After two decades of construction, India’s dedicated freight corridors are now fully operational, promising faster cargo movement across the country.
The government announced that the nation’s dedicated freight corridors have reached full operational status, marking the culmination of a project that began roughly twenty years ago. The corridors, designed to separate freight traffic from passenger lines, span key industrial regions and link major ports with inland manufacturing hubs.
Construction of the corridors was launched in the early 2000s with the aim of creating a high‑speed, high‑capacity rail network for cargo. Over the years, sections were progressively opened, but only now have all segments become functional, allowing uninterrupted freight movement along the entire routes.
Officials say the fully operational corridors will cut transit times for bulk goods, lower logistics costs, and enhance the competitiveness of Indian exports.
