The government announced a set of next‑generation GST reforms aimed at making tax compliance easier and improving the country’s ease‑of‑doing‑business ranking.

The Ministry of Finance has rolled out a series of next‑generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms designed to streamline tax compliance and enhance India’s business environment.

Key changes include a simplified registration process, a single compliance framework for all GST returns, and reduced filing frequency for small and medium enterprises. The reforms also introduce a unified digital portal to consolidate tax payments and documentation.

Officials say the measures will cut administrative costs for businesses, reduce the time required for filing returns, and improve India’s ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the reforms are part of a broader strategy to make India a more attractive destination for investment and to support the growth of the informal sector into the formal economy.
