The Ministry of External Affairs said India will continue to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s activities even after Pakistan assumes the organization’s chairmanship.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced that New Delhi will maintain its engagement with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) despite Pakistan’s upcoming tenure as chair.
The statement comes as Pakistan is slated to take over the SCO chairmanship in the near future, a development that could reshape the group’s dynamics.
New Delhi said its continued participation is driven by the need to safeguard regional security, promote economic cooperation and keep diplomatic channels open with all SCO members.
India, an observer since 2005 and a full member since 2017, underscored that its involvement will remain consistent, irrespective of which nation holds the chair.
The ministry added that constructive dialogue within the SCO framework is essential for addressing common challenges such as terrorism, drug trafficking and border stability in Central and South Asia.
