The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has instructed the removal of Google Firebase accounts after authorities identified a pattern of fraudulent activity using the platform.
New Delhi – The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a directive to delete specific Google Firebase accounts after a systematic scam pattern was uncovered by Indian cyber‑crime investigators. The order, communicated to Google’s Indian operations, targets accounts that were allegedly being used to facilitate phishing, fraudulent transactions and data theft.
According to officials, the scam network exploited Firebase’s real‑time database and authentication services to create disposable apps that lured users into providing personal and financial details. Pattern‑recognition tools flagged a surge in suspicious activity across multiple accounts, prompting a coordinated probe by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell.
MeitY has asked Google to cooperate in disabling the identified accounts and to share relevant logs for further forensic analysis. The move aims to curb the misuse of cloud services and protect Indian internet users from emerging digital frauds.
