India has officially named 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh, a move aimed at reinforcing its sovereignty over the region amid persistent Chinese claims.

India announced the official naming of 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, a step that underscores its intent to solidify administrative control over the border region. The move follows a series of similar actions taken over the past decade, including the renaming of 12 locations in 2021.

The act is part of a broader strategy to assert sovereignty in an area that has been the subject of a long‑standing dispute with China. The Chinese government continues to claim Arunachal as part of its territory, referring to it as South Tibet.

By assigning official names and updating maps, India aims to strengthen its legal and bureaucratic presence, making it harder for China to challenge its claims. The naming also serves as a diplomatic signal to the international community that India remains committed to defending its territorial integrity.

Officials say the decision will be reflected in new administrative documents, road signs, and official maps, further cementing India's governance over the region.
