The government warned that Chinese patrol incursions along the Line of Actual Control could threaten peace, following remarks by the chief of the Indo‑Tibetan Border Police.

New Delhi – After the chief of the Indo‑Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) highlighted that Chinese patrolling deviations risk unsettling the peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Union government issued a formal caution. A senior official from the Ministry of Home Affairs said the observation underscores the need for heightened vigilance on the disputed frontier.

Patrolling deviations refer to instances where Chinese security forces stray beyond the mutually recognised LAC alignment, a pattern that has been reported in several sectors of the Himalayan border in recent months. Such moves, the ITBP chief noted, can create friction and undermine the status‑quo that both sides have tried to maintain.

The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding India’s territorial integrity and announced that border‑monitoring mechanisms will be reinforced. It also called for diplomatic channels to be used to convey concerns to Beijing, aiming to prevent any escalation that could affect regional stability.

While no specific operational details were disclosed, the statement indicated that the ITBP and the Army will coordinate closely to ensure a calibrated response to any further deviations. The ministry emphasized that maintaining peace on the LAC remains a top priority for national security.
