The Indian government has moved more than 180,000 residents from vulnerable coastal areas as Cyclone Arnab makes landfall.

Cyclone Arnab is making landfall along the Indian coast, prompting authorities to evacuate more than 180,000 residents from low‑lying areas.

The evacuation, carried out by the Coast Guard and local governments, has moved people to safer locations such as schools, community centres and temporary shelters.

Officials have warned that the storm will bring strong winds and heavy rainfall, and have urged residents to stay away from the shoreline.

The government has set up emergency response teams and is monitoring the cyclone’s path closely to minimise damage and loss of life.
