The Election Commission reports that voter registration in India is now 98% complete, just before the statutory deadline for submitting the final list.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the voter list is 98% complete, a day before the statutory deadline for submitting the final list to the Commission.
The final list, known as the Statutory Information Report (SIR), must be filed by 30th June. The current progress indicates that only a small fraction of eligible voters remain unenumerated.
To reach the remaining voters, the Commission has been conducting door‑to‑door enumeration and online registration drives across the country. Officials say the remaining 2% includes remote areas and certain demographic groups.
Once the SIR is filed, the ECI will verify the data and publish the final voter roll, which will be used for upcoming elections.
