India and Nepal have formalized a Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement (MLAA) on criminal matters, enhancing cooperation in investigations and evidence sharing.

India and Nepal have signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement (MLAA) on criminal matters, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral law‑enforcement cooperation.
The agreement, signed by officials from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provides a legal framework for sharing evidence, documents and information in criminal investigations.
Under the MLAA, both countries can request assistance in gathering forensic evidence, locating witnesses, and extraditing suspects, thereby expediting cross‑border criminal cases.
Officials from both sides welcomed the pact, noting that it will help curb transnational crime and streamline judicial processes between the two neighboring nations.
