Independent candidates secured a majority in Bharatpur’s municipal corporation election, winning 36 of the 65 wards, while BJP managed 20 and Congress 7.
The recent Bharatpur Municipal Corporation election saw independent candidates emerge as the clear front‑runners, clinching 36 out of the 65 contested wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) followed with victories in 20 wards, and the Indian National Congress managed to win seven.
Both the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) secured a single ward each, rounding off the distribution of seats across the city’s local bodies.
Analysts note that the strong showing by independents reflects a growing preference among urban voters for candidates outside the traditional party framework, especially in municipal governance where local issues dominate the agenda.
