The India Meteorological Department has warned of impending rain over Bhopal and Indore, urging residents to stay prepared.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather alert on Monday, indicating that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to affect the twin cities of Bhopal and Indore later this week. The bulletin cites an approaching low‑pressure system moving eastward across central India, which is expected to bring sustained showers across the region.
According to the IMD, the rain is forecast to begin after sunset on Thursday and could continue into Friday morning, with rainfall totals ranging from 20 to 40 millimetres in the affected districts. The agency has classified the event as a ‘moderate’ weather warning, signalling potential waterlogging in low‑lying areas.
Authorities in both cities have been advised to monitor drainage systems and ensure that emergency services are on standby. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak hours, secure loose objects, and keep emergency kits ready.
The alert follows a relatively dry spell in Madhya Pradesh, and officials anticipate that the upcoming precipitation will help replenish reservoirs while also posing short‑term inconvenience to commuters and businesses.
The IMD will continue to update the public through its official channels as the situation evolves, and local administrations are expected to issue further advisories if conditions worsen.
