The India Meteorological Department has placed Kerala under an orange alert for August 28, warning of heavy rainfall, while South Bengal is also expected to see significant showers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released its daily outlook for August 28, assigning an orange alert to the state of Kerala. An orange alert signals a high likelihood of widespread, heavy rainfall that could disrupt daily activities and pose flood risks in low‑lying areas.

Meteorologists noted that the monsoon trough over the Arabian Sea is expected to intensify, channeling moisture toward the Malabar coast. Residents in coastal districts and inland regions have been advised to stay alert, secure loose objects, and avoid non‑essential travel during the peak rain periods.

In addition to Kerala, the IMD forecasted substantial rainfall over South Bengal, where the system is likely to bring prolonged showers. While the alert level for Bengal remains lower, authorities there are also urging precautionary measures.

The department emphasized that the orange alert will remain in force until the weather system moves away, and updates will be issued as the situation evolves. Citizens are encouraged to monitor official bulletins and heed any local advisories.
