Amid rising flood concerns in Bihar, the centre placed the state on high alert and mobilised the National Disaster Response Force after Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the situation with the chief minister.
The central government has moved Bihar into a high‑alert mode as river levels rise following heavy rains in the region. The alert comes after severe flooding in neighboring Nepal, which heightened concerns about cross‑border water flow and downstream inundation.
Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Bihar's chief minister, Samrat Chaudhary, to obtain an on‑ground assessment and to coordinate response measures. During the call, Shah emphasized the need for vigilance and urged state officials to prepare evacuation plans where necessary.
In response to the alert, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been ordered to standby for rapid deployment to flood‑prone districts. State agencies are reviewing flood‑risk maps and pre‑positioning relief supplies to mitigate potential damage.
Officials have also briefed Uttar Pradesh's chief minister on the situation, given the shared river basins, but the primary focus remains on Bihar's preparedness.
