Himachal Postal Service to Expand Drone Mail Delivery to 110 Routes

The Himachal Pradesh Postal Department has disclosed its intention to broaden its drone mail delivery network to cover 110 routes across the state. This move follows earlier pilot projects that tested the feasibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles for postal services in the hilly terrain of Himachal. By leveraging drones, the department aims to cut delivery times and reach villages that are difficult to access by road.

Officials said the expanded network will operate under the existing regulatory framework for civil aviation, ensuring safety and compliance. The drones are expected to carry lightweight parcels and letters, complementing traditional ground-based delivery.

The initiative reflects a broader push by state authorities to adopt technology-driven solutions for infrastructure challenges in mountainous regions. If successful, the expanded drone service could become a model for other Indian states facing similar logistical hurdles.
