Heavy rains and strong winds in the Rahli area of Sagar have destroyed crops, including maize and soybeans, after earlier losses of lentils. Authorities have begun a crop survey.
Heavy rainfall and gale‑force winds struck the Rahli region of Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, leaving a trail of ruined fields. Farmers reported that the downpour, which lasted for several hours, uprooted maize stalks and damaged soybean pods that had just begun to mature.
Earlier in the season, the same weather had already destroyed a large portion of the lentil crop, leaving farmers with a double blow. The sudden shift from lentils to maize and soybeans has complicated recovery efforts, as each crop requires different post‑harvest handling.
In response, the district administration has launched a comprehensive crop survey to assess the extent of the damage and to determine compensation eligibility under the state’s agricultural support schemes. Officials are also coordinating with the local agricultural extension office to provide immediate relief supplies.
Farmers in the area are expressing concern over the loss of their livelihoods. Many have already begun to seek assistance from the government’s disaster relief program, hoping for timely support to rebuild their farms.
