Meteorological departments have issued warnings as intense rainfall sweeps across Odisha, causing waterlogging and prompting precautionary measures.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert for several districts of Odisha after a series of heavy showers began early this morning. Rainfall intensity, measured at up to 50 mm per hour in some areas, has led to rapid water accumulation on roads and low‑lying neighborhoods.
Local authorities in Bhubaneswar and surrounding districts have activated emergency response teams, deploying sandbags and clearing drainage channels to mitigate flooding. Schools and government offices in the most affected zones have been temporarily closed as a safety precaution.
Preliminary reports indicate that a few villages are experiencing minor inundation, but there have been no confirmed casualties or major property damage so far. Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid travel on flooded routes, and follow updates from the state disaster management agency.
The state government has urged the public to cooperate with relief crews and to report any water‑related emergencies through the dedicated helpline. Continuous monitoring will be carried out throughout the day as the weather system moves inland.
Experts say the monsoon pattern this year is showing higher variability, and they recommend that communities remain vigilant until the rains subside.
