The Haryana government has approved a Rs 38 crore project to install odour‑control equipment at 24 sewage treatment plants, aiming to eliminate foul smells from the facilities.

The state of Haryana announced a Rs 38 crore investment to fit odour‑control systems across 24 of its sewage treatment plants (STPs). The initiative is intended to curb the unpleasant smells that have been reported by residents living near the facilities.

According to officials, the new equipment will capture and treat odorous gases before they are released into the atmosphere, thereby improving air quality in surrounding neighbourhoods. The project forms part of Haryana's broader effort to modernise its waste‑water infrastructure and meet environmental standards.

The funding will be drawn from the state’s budget, and the installation is expected to begin later this year, with completion targeted within the next 12‑18 months. State authorities said the move will also benefit public health by reducing exposure to harmful emissions.

No additional financial details or contractor information were disclosed at the time of the announcement.
