The Gujarat state government announced that a new insurance scheme will provide coverage for one lakh animals, aiming to safeguard farmers against livestock losses.
The Gujarat administration has unveiled a government-backed insurance programme that will extend coverage to 100,000 animals across the state. The scheme is designed to mitigate financial losses for farmers caused by disease, natural calamities or accidental death of livestock. Under the plan, eligible owners can enrol their animals and pay a nominal premium, after which the government will shoulder a major portion of any claim. Officials said the initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve rural livelihoods. Implementation will be coordinated through the state's animal husbandry department, with details on enrollment and claim procedures to be released shortly.
