The Haryana government announced plans to install monitoring cameras at fuel stations across the state to identify vehicles that have reached the end of their service life.
The state government of Haryana has unveiled a new road‑safety initiative that will see surveillance cameras installed at petrol pumps throughout the region. The system is designed to automatically detect vehicles that have surpassed their permissible service life, commonly referred to as end‑of‑life (EOL) vehicles.
These cameras will be linked to a central database that cross‑checks vehicle registration details and emission standards. When an EOL vehicle is identified, the system will alert the pump attendant and the driver, prompting a check for compliance with scrappage regulations.
According to an official statement, the rollout will begin in the coming weeks, with priority given to high‑traffic stations in major districts. The government aims to curb the circulation of heavily polluting and unsafe vehicles, thereby improving road safety and air quality.
