The Haryana health department has instructed all state hospitals to keep dedicated burn and trauma beds ready for the Diwali festival, aiming to handle potential injuries and fire-related incidents.

The health ministry of Haryana issued a circular to all government and private hospitals in the state, directing them to allocate a specific number of beds for burn and trauma cases during the Diwali period. The directive comes in response to the heightened risk of fire-related injuries that typically surge during the festival, when fireworks and open flames are widely used.

Hospital administrators have been asked to ensure that these beds are fully equipped with necessary medical supplies, including dressings, ventilators, and trained staff, to provide immediate care. The health department will monitor compliance through periodic checks and may impose penalties for non‑adherence.

Officials emphasized that the measure is preventive, aiming to reduce mortality and morbidity associated with Diwali accidents. They also urged the public to observe safety guidelines while handling fireworks and to seek prompt medical attention if injuries occur.

The circular, dated October 20, 2024, will remain in effect until the end of the Diwali celebrations, after which hospitals can revert to their regular bed allocation.

The move reflects a broader effort by state authorities to enhance emergency preparedness during major festivals, aligning with national health safety protocols.
