Haryana has now connected over 5,000 village panchayats to the BharatNet broadband network, boosting digital access across the state.

The Government of Haryana announced that more than 5,000 village panchayats are now linked to the BharatNet broadband network, a national initiative aimed at providing high‑speed internet to rural areas.

BharatNet, launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, seeks to connect every gram panchayat with a minimum speed of 1 Mbps. The recent milestone in Haryana brings the state closer to the national target of covering all 7,000 panchayats.

Officials say the new connectivity will enable e‑government services, online education, tele‑medicine, and digital payments for residents. It also supports local businesses by providing access to e‑commerce and market information.

The rollout involved installing fiber‑optic cables and setting up local exchange points in remote villages. Haryana’s Chief Minister praised the project for bridging the digital divide and said the state will continue to invest in infrastructure upgrades.

The expansion is part of a broader push to digitize rural India, with similar projects underway in neighboring states.
