The Haryana unit of the Indian National Congress staged a protest in Gurgaon demanding the withdrawal of recent FIRs and the release of arrested youth workers.
Earlier this week, members of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee gathered in Gurgaon to demonstrate against recent police FIRs filed against several youth workers affiliated with the party. The protesters carried placards and chanted slogans, urging the authorities to drop the cases and free the detained activists.
According to party sources, the FIRs were lodged under sections relating to public order, and the arrests were carried out by local police following a raid on a party office. Congress leaders described the actions as politically motivated and said they target the party's grassroots workers ahead of upcoming local elections.
Police officials declined to provide detailed comments, stating that investigations are ongoing and that they are bound by law. The Congress delegation reiterated its demand for a swift resolution, warning that continued arrests could further inflame tensions in the region.
The protest underscores growing friction between the state government and opposition parties in Haryana, with the Congress seeking to mobilise public opinion ahead of the next electoral cycle.
