The governments of Haryana and Australia have announced plans to develop collaborative projects in sport, education and investment, aiming to deepen bilateral ties.

New Delhi – Officials from the Indian state of Haryana and the Australian government met this week to outline a framework for cooperation spanning sports, education and investment. The dialogue, held under the aegis of both governments' trade and cultural ministries, focused on creating exchange programmes for athletes, joint research initiatives between universities, and avenues for Australian investors to tap into Haryana's emerging industrial corridors.

Both sides highlighted the complementary strengths of the partners: Haryana's robust sports infrastructure and growing educational institutions, and Australia's expertise in sports science, higher‑education research and capital markets. A memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed later this month, paving the way for pilot projects such as student exchange scholarships and co‑hosting of international sporting events.

Stakeholders from the private sector were also invited, signalling a push to translate diplomatic goodwill into tangible economic opportunities. If successful, the partnership could serve as a model for other Indian states seeking deeper engagement with overseas economies.

The initiative aligns with broader Indo‑Australian strategic objectives to diversify trade, enhance people‑to‑people contacts and foster innovation across sectors.
