Goa FDA shuts three Porvorim government canteens over hygiene and structural flaws

The Goa Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an inspection of three government canteens located in Porvorim, a town on the outskirts of the state capital. Inspectors reported multiple violations, including unsanitary kitchen conditions, inadequate waste disposal, and visible pest infestation. In addition to the hygiene concerns, structural issues such as cracked walls, faulty electrical wiring, and compromised roofing were documented.

Based on the findings, the FDA issued a notice directing the canteens to halt all food service activities immediately. The order mandates that the establishments undergo remedial work to address both health and safety shortcomings before they can resume operations. The department has also instructed the local municipal authorities to monitor compliance and ensure that corrective measures are implemented promptly.
