A large pile of waste was discovered outside a temple near the Jaipur mayor's house, prompting criticism of the city's cleaning system.
City officials in Jaipur reported that a substantial accumulation of garbage was spotted beside a temple close to the mayor's official residence on Monday. Residents who passed the site complained that the waste had been left unattended for several days, attracting stray animals and emitting a strong odor.
The municipal corporation has launched an inquiry into how the pile went unnoticed despite regular patrols. Officials said a team of sanitation workers was dispatched immediately to clear the debris and that a review of the area’s waste‑collection schedule will be undertaken.
Local civic groups have called for stricter monitoring and faster response times, warning that such lapses undermine public confidence in municipal services. The mayor's office declined to comment on the incident but assured that corrective measures will be implemented promptly.
The incident has reignited a broader debate in Rajasthan about urban cleanliness, especially ahead of upcoming national cleanliness campaigns. Authorities have urged citizens to report similar violations through the city's dedicated helpline.
