Ganga water rises 1.5 ft overnight in Teghra, Begusarai, flooding crops

The river Ganga in Teghra, a diara region of Begusarai district, rose sharply by roughly one and a half feet during the night, according to local reports. The sudden increase in water level has turned previously dry stretches into inundated zones, prompting concerns among residents and officials.

Low‑lying fields and habitations along the riverbank are now facing an elevated flood threat. Authorities have warned that the rapid rise could spill over into adjoining villages, heightening the need for emergency preparedness.

Preliminary assessments indicate that several hundred acres of standing crops have already been submerged, jeopardising the livelihood of farmers in the area. Relief teams are being mobilised to assess damage and provide immediate assistance, while monitoring stations continue to track the river’s flow.

Local officials have appealed for community cooperation, urging people to avoid wading into the water and to follow any evacuation directives that may be issued as the situation evolves.
