The meteorological department has issued a flash flood warning for the entire Jammu & Kashmir region, urging residents to stay alert.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a flash flood warning covering the whole of Jammu & Kashmir, citing heavy rainfall forecasts in the coming days. The alert follows a series of intense monsoon showers that have already swollen several rivers in the valley.
Authorities warn that rivers such as the Jhelum, Chenab and Tawi could breach their banks, putting low‑lying villages and towns at risk of sudden inundation. Residents in districts like Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla and Kishtwar have been advised to monitor local updates.
The state disaster management authority has instructed district officials to activate emergency response teams, pre‑position relief supplies and ensure evacuation routes are clear. Citizens are urged to avoid riverbanks, refrain from driving through flooded roads and keep mobile phones charged for alerts.
