A tragic incident on the Chambal River near Gwalior saw a father and his son drown while bathing. The pair, residents of Chandpur in Birla Nagar, were returning from a visit to the ancient Babu Maharaj temple in Karajni.
At around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, the Chambal River near Machla Ghat in the Chinnauani police station area witnessed a fatal accident when a father and his son were swept away while bathing. The victims, both from Chandpur in Birla Nagar, Gwalior, were reportedly returning from a pilgrimage to the ancient Babu Maharaj temple located in Karajni.
Local residents and nearby villagers rushed to the scene, but the strong current had already taken the two men. Rescue teams from the district police and the local riverine patrol were called in, but they could not recover the bodies before the river's flow carried them downstream.
The incident has prompted an investigation into the safety conditions of the riverbank at Machla Ghat. Authorities have urged caution for those who visit the river for bathing or recreation, especially during early morning hours.
The families of the deceased are said to be in distress, and a memorial service is expected to be held at the nearby temple grounds. The incident has drawn attention to the need for better safety measures along the Chambal River in the region.
