Health officials in Himachal Pradesh have urged the public to handle fireworks carefully, citing a rise in burn injuries as festivals approach.

Health experts in Himachal Pradesh have sounded an alarm as the festive season approaches, reminding residents that improper use of firecrackers can lead to serious burn injuries. The warning comes ahead of major celebrations such as Diwali and Dussehra, when the use of fireworks traditionally spikes.

Officials note that hospitals across the state have reported a noticeable increase in firecracker‑related burns during previous festival periods. Injuries range from minor skin abrasions to severe second‑degree burns, often affecting children and by‑standers who are too close to the explosions.

The advisory stresses several precautionary measures: only purchase fireworks from licensed vendors, light them outdoors in open spaces, keep a safe distance, and have basic first‑aid supplies such as clean water and sterile dressings ready. Wearing protective clothing and supervising children are also recommended.

State health departments are coordinating with local police to enforce existing firecracker regulations and to conduct awareness drives in schools and community centers. The aim is to ensure that celebrations remain joyful without compromising public safety.
