Minister Bhupender Yadav praised Punjab and Haryana for cutting down stubble burning, highlighting the improvement in air quality across the region.

New Delhi – Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav commended the governments of Punjab and Haryana for a noticeable reduction in stubble burning during the recent harvest season. In a statement released today, Yadav said the decline in open‑field fires is a positive step toward cleaner air and reduced health risks for residents of the northern belt.

The minister attributed the progress to coordinated efforts between state authorities, farmer groups and the Ministry of Environment, which have promoted alternative crop‑residue management practices. He urged continued adoption of such measures to sustain the gains and prevent a resurgence of the seasonal haze.

Yadav’s remarks come as the central government intensifies monitoring of air‑pollution hotspots and encourages the use of technology‑driven solutions, such as residue‑utilisation kits and incentivised crop‑diversification schemes. The minister reiterated that maintaining lower levels of stubble burning will be crucial for meeting national air‑quality targets.
