A mini bus carrying around 25 passengers fell into a drain on the Delhi‑Mumbai Expressway near Semliya in Kota, Rajasthan, killing eight pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh and injuring more than 15 others.
The Delhi‑Mumbai Expressway near Semliya in Kota district of Rajasthan became the site of a serious road accident when a mini bus, reportedly loaded with about 25 travelers, lost control and plunged roughly 15 feet into a drainage channel.
Emergency services arrived quickly, extracting the victims from the wreckage. Eight of those killed were identified as pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh, while more than 15 others sustained injuries ranging from minor cuts to serious trauma.
Local police and medical teams have set up a temporary relief camp at the nearest health centre, providing first‑aid and arranging transport for the seriously injured to larger hospitals in Kota. The injured are being treated under the supervision of senior doctors, and families of the deceased have been informed.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the bus’s uncontrolled descent, examining factors such as vehicle condition, driver fatigue and road safety measures on the expressway.
The incident has prompted calls for stricter enforcement of safety norms for passenger vehicles operating on high‑speed corridors, especially during pilgrimage seasons.
