DYFI Stages Protest Over Shortcomings at Jalahalli Government Hospital
Shortage of infrastructure, doctors and nursing staff, medicine-related issues: Officials visit protest site and inspect the situation
Jalahalli, Sept. 16 (Raichur): Alleging that patients and the public are facing severe difficulties due to a shortage of basic infrastructure, doctors and nursing staff, as well as the non-availability of medicines at the Community Health Centre in Jalahalli, the Devadurga Taluk Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest in front of the hospital on Wednesday.
The protesters alleged that doctors are not available during night hours and that patients coming for emergency treatment are facing difficulties due to the shortage of nursing staff.
DYFI leaders alleged that medicines which are supposed to be provided free of cost at the government hospital are not available, forcing patients to purchase medicines from outside medical shops. They also said allegations have been raised that pregnant women are being asked to pay money in the maternity section.
Major Demands
- Proper cleanliness and sanitation should be maintained in the hospital and the required number of doctors should be appointed immediately.
- A woman doctor should be appointed and an on-duty doctor should be made available during night hours.
- Prescribing medicines from outside medical shops should be stopped and free medicines should be made available at the hospital itself.
- The non-functional oxygen unit should be made operational immediately.
- An ultrasound scanning facility should be provided.
- A generator should be installed to ensure alternative power supply during electricity interruptions.
- The pending financial assistance due to beneficiaries under the Janani Suraksha Yojana should be distributed immediately.
DYFI president Kondaiah Gosal and secretary Venkatesh Tyapli said a memorandum had already been submitted to the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital. They warned that the agitation would be intensified if the demands were not addressed immediately.
Officials Visit Protest Site
Taluk Health Officer Dr. Banadeshwar visited the protest site and heard the demands of the protesters. He assured them that the problems and demands related to the hospital would be brought to the attention of the District Health and Family Welfare Officer.
Jalahalli Community Health Centre Medical Officer Dr. R.S. Hulmanigowda and Pharmacy Officer Veeresh Devadurga were present.
State Labour Organisation leader Shabbir Jalahalli, district president Raju Nayak, taluk president Riyaz Arthi, Mallugowda, Thimanna Bengandi, Lohith Modi, vice-president Riyaz Khureshi, Maihboob Khureshi, Raj Mohammed Taked, Mahalinga Dodmani, farmer leader Shivaraj Nadiger, Mounesh Dasar, Hanumantha Madiwal, Durgappa Horati and several others participated in the protest.
DYFI leaders said copies of the memorandum had also been submitted to the Health Minister, District Health and Family Welfare Officer and Taluk Health Officer.
