A drone-based medical transport system has begun delivering essential medicines to tribal villages in Andhra Pradesh, improving access to healthcare in hard‑to‑reach areas.

The Andhra Pradesh health department has launched a drone‑based service to ferry essential medicines to tribal hamlets that are cut off from conventional supply routes. Unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with temperature‑controlled compartments are dispatched from regional hubs and flown to villages nestled in hilly and forested terrain.
The programme, developed in collaboration with a technology partner, aims to bridge the gap between remote populations and timely medical care. By bypassing poor road infrastructure, drones can deliver drugs, vaccines and emergency kits within hours rather than days.
Local health workers report that the new system has already reduced travel time for patients needing urgent medication, and it is expected to lower the incidence of preventable illnesses in these underserved communities.
Authorities plan to expand the network to additional districts, integrating tele‑consultation services so that drones can also transport diagnostic samples alongside medicines.
