The Himachal Pradesh government is set to introduce a family health insurance scheme offering coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family, with a tender that attracted eight bidders.
The state government of Himachal Pradesh announced plans to roll out a family health insurance programme that will provide a maximum cover of Rs 10 lakh per household. The scheme aims to reduce out‑of‑pocket expenses for medical treatment and to broaden access to quality healthcare across urban and rural areas.
A public tender was issued to identify a private insurer capable of managing the scheme. Eight companies submitted bids, indicating strong interest from the insurance sector in partnering with the state on this large‑scale initiative.
The selected insurer will be responsible for enrolment, claim processing and network management, while the state will fund the premium component through its health budget. Officials expect the scheme to become operational by the end of the fiscal year, covering millions of families.
The move aligns with the central government's push for universal health coverage and follows similar high‑value insurance models adopted in other Indian states.
