The Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully carried out three successive flight trials of the Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha.
New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced the successful completion of three back-to-back flight trials of its Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Odisha. The trials, conducted under controlled conditions, aimed to validate the missile's launch, guidance and interception capabilities.
According to DRDO officials, each flight demonstrated consistent performance, confirming that the system meets the operational parameters set for short-range air defence. The VSHORADS is intended to provide the Indian armed forces with a lightweight, quick‑reaction solution against low‑altitude aerial threats.
The Integrated Test Range, a premier testing facility of the Indian defence establishment, continues to support the development of indigenous weapons systems. The successful trials mark a significant step towards the eventual induction of VSHORADS into the Indian Army and Air Force inventories.
Further evaluations and user trials are expected before the system moves to full‑scale production, reinforcing India's push for self‑reliant defence capabilities.
