Karnataka’s chief minister DK Shivakumar has alleged that the state government has been blending ethanol into fuel beyond permissible limits. He said he will submit evidence and documents on Monday.

Karnataka’s chief minister DK Shivakumar has raised concerns over the state’s ethanol blending practices, claiming that the government is exceeding the mandated percentage of ethanol in petrol and diesel. The allegation comes amid a nationwide push to increase biofuel use as part of India’s energy and environmental goals.

Shivakumar said that the blending levels reported by the state authorities do not match the figures he has received from independent audits. He stated that he will present concrete evidence and supporting documents to the legislative assembly on Monday.

The issue has drawn attention from both the fuel industry and consumer groups, who are monitoring the impact of higher ethanol blends on vehicle performance and fuel prices. The state’s Department of Petroleum and Chemicals has yet to respond to the allegations.

If the claims are substantiated, it could prompt a review of the state’s compliance with the Central Government’s ethanol blending norms and potentially lead to regulatory action or policy adjustments.
