Devotees Rally to Stop Relocation of Ujjain’s Historic Khade Hanuman Temple

Hundreds of worshippers gathered at the Khade Hanuman Temple in Ujjain, demanding that the historic shrine not be moved as officials consider relocation.
Ujjain’s centuries‑old Shri Khade Hanuman Temple has become the focus of a heated dispute after municipal authorities signaled a possible relocation of the structure. The temple, known for its standing Hanuman idol, is a landmark in the city’s religious landscape and attracts devotees from across Madhya Pradesh.
On Saturday, a large crowd of worshippers assembled at the temple premises, chanting verses from the Sundarkand and holding placards that read “We will not let the standing Hanuman go.” Video footage shared on social media shows the devotees encircling the shrine, urging officials to preserve the site.
Local heritage groups have also voiced concerns, arguing that the temple’s architectural and cultural value merits protection under state heritage laws. The municipal body, however, has not released a detailed plan, citing urban development needs.
