Delhi authorities have announced the burning of 30-foot high cockroach effigies alongside Ravana during Dussehra celebrations to promote cleanliness and hygiene awareness.
In a unique initiative to combine cultural tradition with public health messaging, Delhi has planned to burn large effigies of cockroaches alongside the traditional Ravana effigies during the upcoming Dussehra festival.
The 30-foot high cockroach structures are intended to symbolize the fight against urban pests and promote cleanliness. This move aims to raise awareness about hygiene issues in the capital city while maintaining the festive spirit of the occasion.
The decision reflects an effort to use the high visibility of Dussehra celebrations to address civic issues. By integrating this symbolic act into the main ritual, authorities hope to send a strong message about maintaining a clean environment.
This addition to the traditional Ravana Dahan is expected to draw attention from both locals and visitors, highlighting the city's focus on sanitation during one of the most significant Hindu festivals.
