Meteorologists warn that a deep depression forming over the Bay of Bengal may unleash extremely heavy rains across large parts of India and Nepal in the coming days.

A deep low‑pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and regional weather agencies. The depression is characterized by intense convection and is expected to intensify as it moves westward.

Forecasters anticipate that the system could produce extremely heavy rainfall across a broad swath of the Indian subcontinent, affecting coastal states as well as interior regions, and extending into neighboring Nepal. Rainfall totals could exceed typical monsoon levels, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides.

Authorities have issued advisories urging residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert, avoid low‑lying zones, and be prepared for possible evacuation. The IMD continues to monitor the depression and will update warnings as the situation evolves.
