A 100‑km run from Darap in Sikkim to the Darjeeling‑Siliguri corridor has been announced to encourage residents to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
The Sikkim state government has unveiled a 100‑kilometre running event that will start from Darap and stretch to the Darjeeling‑Siliguri corridor, aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle among residents.
The run, scheduled for early September, will cover diverse terrains, including the lush hills of Darap and the bustling streets of Siliguri, offering participants a unique blend of nature and urban scenery.
Local authorities have opened registration for both amateur and professional runners, with a target of 5,000 participants. The event will feature medical checkpoints, hydration stations, and a finish‑line celebration to ensure safety and motivation.
Support from the Sikkim Tourism Board and several corporate sponsors will provide logistical assistance, while the event is expected to boost local tourism and create awareness about the benefits of regular exercise.
Officials hope the run will inspire community members to adopt regular physical activity and showcase Sikkim’s scenic routes to a wider audience.
