Cyclone Arnab Causes Flooding in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert

Cyclone Arnab, now weakened, has unleashed heavy rainfall and flooding across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a heavy‑rain alert.
The remnants of Cyclone Arnab, which originated over the Bay of Bengal, have moved northward into the Indian heartland. Although the system has lost much of its intensity, it continues to dump torrential rain across parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, causing waterlogging and localized flooding.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy‑rain alert for the two states, warning of further accumulation that could disrupt transport, damage crops and strain emergency services. Local authorities have begun evacuating residents from low‑lying areas and deploying rescue teams.
Beyond Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the storm’s periphery has also affected Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, where similar weather disturbances have been reported. Officials are monitoring river levels and have urged the public to stay alert and avoid non‑essential travel until conditions improve.
