Cyber fraud in Guna: Panchayat secretary duped by APK, loses Rs 3.05 lakh

A gram panchayat secretary in Guna’s Mrigawas area opened a WhatsApp‑sent APK, mistaking it for official work, and fraudsters withdrew Rs 3,05,050 from his account.
Guna district’s Mrigawas police‑station jurisdiction witnessed a rare cyber‑fraud case on Wednesday. The victim, a gram panchayat secretary, received an APK file via WhatsApp that was presented as a document related to government work. Believing it to be legitimate, he opened the file on his mobile device.
The malicious application installed hidden code that linked to the secretary’s bank account. Within a short span, the fraudsters initiated a series of transactions, siphoning a total of Rs 3,05,050 in separate withdrawals.
Local police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation to trace the perpetrators and recover the funds. Officials have warned other government employees to verify the authenticity of any digital file, especially those received through informal channels like messaging apps.
