The government today released a notification introducing the CURE Act, which will replace the existing framework of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Urban Development released a notification introducing the CURE Act, a new legislative framework intended to replace the existing governance structure of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The act, which stands for "City Urban Renewal and Efficiency", seeks to streamline administrative processes, enhance transparency, and improve service delivery across the city.
Under the CURE Act, several key changes are proposed. The notification outlines a revised organizational hierarchy, new accountability mechanisms, and a framework for citizen participation in decision‑making. It also introduces provisions for better financial management and the use of technology to monitor municipal services.
The decision follows a review of GHMC’s performance and aims to address long‑standing issues such as delayed infrastructure projects and limited citizen engagement. Officials say the new framework will enable faster approvals and clearer roles for municipal officials.
The notification is now open for public comment until the end of next month, after which the act will be formally enacted. Stakeholders are expected to review the draft and provide feedback on the proposed changes.
