The CoTU has condemned the recent bloodshed in Makui and called for the removal of what it describes as illegal checkpoints at Chawangkining and Thonglang in Manipur. The organization says the checkpoints heighten tensions and infringe on civilian rights.
The CoTU issued a statement condemning the violence that took place in the Makui area of Manipur. It described the incident as a tragic loss of life and urged authorities to investigate the circumstances.
In the same statement, the organization demanded the immediate dismantling of checkpoints it labelled as illegal at Chawangkining and Thonglang. It argued that these installations were set up without proper legal authority and were contributing to unrest.
CoTU urged the state administration to engage with local communities to restore peace and ensure that security measures respect civilian rights. It warned that continued presence of such checkpoints could further aggravate the situation.
