Congress Issues Seven Demands to Police Ahead of Jaipur Mayor Election

The Rajasthan unit of the Indian National Congress has formally approached the police and administrative officials in Jaipur ahead of the city’s mayoral election. In a memorandum submitted after the recent state legislative assembly polls, the party warned that any coercion of elected councillors could undermine the democratic process.

The document lists seven specific demands, including a directive that police not use force or threats to influence councillors, that no councillor be placed under arrest without clear legal justification, and that voting procedures remain free from interference. Congress also asked for transparent monitoring of the election day to ensure that all candidates can cast their votes without obstruction.

A Congress spokesperson said the party is seeking “a level playing field” and urged authorities to act swiftly on the demands. The police have not yet issued a public response, and the election commission is expected to oversee the poll under heightened scrutiny.
