A dispute erupted in Coimbatore as Tamil Nadu's TVK and DMK parties clash over the selection of books for a ₹300‑crore library. Both parties accuse each other of mismanagement.
The new Coimbatore Public Library, a ₹300‑crore project inaugurated earlier this year, was built to provide a modern knowledge hub for the city’s residents.
However, a row broke out when the state’s ruling party, Tamil Nadu Vidhana Kazhagam (TVK), and the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) began accusing each other over the selection of books for the library’s collection.
TVK officials claim that the DMK had pressured the library board to include politically biased titles, while DMK representatives argue that the TVK failed to follow the prescribed procurement guidelines.
The controversy has drawn attention from the state government, which has called for an independent review of the library’s procurement process, but no resolution has yet been announced.
