Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Golay announced that the families displaced by the recent landslide in Rimbi will be provided with new homes and rehabilitation support.

A landslide triggered by heavy rains struck the remote hamlet of Rimbi in South Sikkim earlier this week, destroying several houses and forcing dozens of families to seek temporary shelter in relief camps. Local authorities reported that the slide damaged road access and cut off electricity, complicating rescue efforts.

Chief Minister P.S. Golay visited the site on Friday and assured the affected residents that the state government will relocate them to newly constructed housing units. He outlined a plan to clear the debris, rebuild essential infrastructure, and provide financial assistance for livelihood restoration within the next three months.

The state disaster management team, together with the Sikkim Police and the National Disaster Response Force, is coordinating the rehabilitation process. Officials said that temporary tents will remain until permanent structures are ready, and that health and education services will be restored promptly to minimise disruption to the community.

Golay emphasized that the government will monitor the situation closely and that any further assistance required will be addressed without delay, underscoring the administration's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable mountain communities.
