Clash at Ranchi protest over Jharkhand HC stay on exam cancellations leads to arrests

Ranchi, Jharkhand, witnessed a heated protest on Thursday after the state High Court stayed the cancellation of upcoming examinations. Demonstrators, primarily students and their supporters, gathered near the district court demanding that the original decision to cancel the exams be reinstated.
The rally turned confrontational when police attempted to disperse the crowd, leading to a clash between protesters and law‑enforcement personnel. Stones were reportedly thrown, and police used batons to control the situation.
Following the disturbance, authorities registered cases against several participants. The police statement said that those booked include individuals accused of rioting, vandalism and obstructing public servants.
The incident adds to growing tensions in Jharkhand's education sector, where the sudden reversal of exam policies has sparked widespread unrest among students awaiting their results.
