A group of schoolgirls in Chhattisgarh walked 30 kilometres to the district headquarters, protesting power outages, inadequate meals and a shortage of teachers.
A contingent of schoolgirls from a Chhattisgarh government school set out on a 30‑kilometre march to the district collector's office on Monday. The students, accompanied by a few teachers and parents, walked the distance to draw attention to chronic problems at their school, including frequent power cuts, sub‑standard mid‑day meals and an acute shortage of teaching staff.
The march began from the school premises early in the morning and passed through several villages before reaching the district headquarters in the afternoon. Upon arrival, the girls presented a petition outlining their grievances and demanded immediate remedial action from the authorities.
Local officials said they would review the complaints and coordinate with the state education department to address the power supply, improve the quality of food served under the Mid‑Day Meal Scheme, and recruit additional teachers to fill vacant posts.
